Giving Thanks: Corporate Worship
All week we’re sharing blog posts centered on thanksgiving, gratitude, and thankfulness as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday. Today, one of our global outreach missionaries (whose name and country have been removed for security) shares what she’s thankful about in corporate worship in an email originally sent to Eric Anderson, our Pastor of Worship Arts.
Hi Eric,
We are looking forward to being at College Park this fall and enjoying worship in our own language. One song that has really been meaningful during the past two years for me is “Christ is Enough”. There are countless days that I struggle to not look back or want to go home, days when I’m tired of difficult communication or being misunderstood culturally, fighting off cockroaches, or wondering if whatever I eat or drink is going to make me sick. The enemy loves to discourage and make me think it would just be better to go home… to have clean water, regular electricity, air-conditioning, money, a car, family, friends that understand me, etc….
In those moments, I am especially encouraged by “Christ is Enough.” While singing that song, I am reminded of many baptism services when that song played as believers publicly demonstrated their new life and desire to follow Jesus, no turning back. The Lord then reminds me of the day He set me free. Oh, how I want that for the people of South Asia – nearly everyone I see and work with here still lives in bondage to idols/sin. Jesus is enough, everything we need, our reward, our joy, and our home. I want to keep the cross/Jesus before me, the world behind me – no turning back, no turning back.
See everyone soon!
